Speak Up! Canada Storytellers

A Nation-Wide Event

Speak Up! Canada is a nation-wide event aiming to connect speakers of all ages sharing Canadian writing out loud. Events involve online sessions of spoken performance and discussions.

Participants receive both oral and written feedback. Proceeds are given to supporting groups, helping fund bursaries, scholarships and workshops for speech arts across Canada.

Why Participate?

  • Fees are very low
  • Scheduling flexible to students’ needs (and time zones)
  • Volunteer adjudicators are encouraging
  • Original work welcome

November’s Success

November’s sessions involved 150+ speakers from 5 provinces. Individuals met in small groups on Zoom to share performances and ideas – even the youngest were encouraged to speak up and give their reactions. It was an enjoyable, low-key celebration of Canadian poetry and poets.

Keep the Momentum Going

Let’s get more people from more provinces involved in our next Zoom event: Speak Up! Canada Storytellers, March 9–14, 2026.

Grab a friend and get them to join you. Call on your cousins, grandchildren, former students, neighbours… to tell a story or do a reading with you. See the syllabus and use the new online registration program to get involved.
